She will be laid to rest at the Worrell Memorial Gardens, Old Mt. Olive Hwy, Dudley, NC.
Alice Therease Worrell, daughter of George Worrell and Bernice Worrell (Hall), was born April 3, 1954 in Dudley, North Carolina. She received her primary and secondary education in Dudley, NC and Jamaica, Queens, NY, prior to pursuing post-secondary business studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey.
Upon moving to New Jersey in the early 1970s, Alice worked at various organizations, including MEPCO Electra, Silver Burdett and Bambergers, before becoming a City Carrier in Morristown, NJ in 1984, beginning her 39 year career with the USPS. Alice served in several positions in Northern NJ/NY, receiving multiple recognitions from the U.S. Department of Labor for her contributions throughout her postal career, which culminated as Postmaster in Gillette, New Jersey, until she retired in January 2023.
Alice was a proud breast cancer survivor and served to encourage and support others through their cancer journey as a long-time volunteer with CHEMOCare and Cancer Hope Network in New Jersey. She was known to advocate for treatment and to live beyond a diagnosis. She also extended her service to support families of Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers.
Born to a large family with eight siblings, throughout her life, Alice was dedicated to family and her most precious roles as mother and grandmother to her only daughter, Tonya and granddaughter, Jadyn. Her dedication to them led her to relocate to Georgia, where she was able to rejoin her family and live out her retirement.
To cherish her memory, Alice leaves her daughter, Tonya Smith; granddaughter, Jadyn Smith; brother, Leamon Worrell and sisters: Queen Williams (Henry) and Rozalyn Garner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
