Ms. Bessie Lee Artis' Obituary
Fremont - Ms. Bessie L. Harvey Artis, 81, completed her earthly journey and transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at UNC Wayne Health, Goldsboro, NC. The celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 12:00pm with a viewing from 11:00am to 11:50am at Bear Creek Missionary Baptist Association Headquarters, 1800 S. Slocumb Street, Goldsboro, NC. She will be laid to rest at the Hooks Grove Church Cemetery, 290 Hooks Grove Road, Pikeville, NC.
Bessie Lee Harvey Artis was born January 19, 1943, in Wayne County as the third of thirteen children to the late Noah and Annie Lee Dobson Harvey. Preceding her in death are three brothers: Nathanial Harvey, James Harvey and Bobby Harvey, and one sister: Betty Joyce Blacknall.
Bessie was married to the late Melvin Artis to through which this union four children were born. Leaving to cherish her life and memory are two sons, Melvin Artis (Yolanda), Edward Artis (Thomisene) and two daughters, Sherby Artis and Amanda Artis; four grandchildren: Keosha Smith (Tommy), DaLonda Artis, Jalen Artis and Sterling Artis. 4 Great-Grandchildren: Kanysia Smith, Khyan Smith, Raelynn Smith and Bryce Harris; four sisters, Mary Chapman, Willie Mae Shehee (James), Ann Harvey, Gloria Shelton; four brothers, Earl Harvey, Billy Harvey (Cora), Noah Harvey and Larry Harvey; one brother-in law, Wiley Artis and two aunts, Ella Dobson and Adell Harvey, over 50 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
