Goldsboro - Mr. Birl "Buster" McKenzie, 89 of 1003 S. Madison Ave., passed at home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. The homegoing service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 12 noon in the J.B. Rhodes Jr. Memorial Chapel at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations with Elder Bobby Ray Smith officiating. There will be a viewing held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 11:00 am until 12 noon in the chapel. He was born on November 12, 1924 in Wilson, NC to Samuel and Rosanna McKinzie. He is survived by, daughters: Patricia Faye of Washington, DC and Desiree McKinzie of Philadelphia, PA; stepdaughters: LaRue McKinzie of Goldsboro, NC and Jacqueline Betha of Philadelphia, PA; sons: Birl McKinzie, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Tyrone Anderson of Philadelphia, PA, Larry Fields of Seattle, Washington, Virgil McKinzie of Philadelphia, PA; brother, Hiawatha McKinzie of Goldsboro, NC, with whom he lived; sister-in-law: Julia McKinzie of Philadelphia, PA, Kattie McKinzie of Goldsboro, NC, and Patricia McKinzie of Goldsboro, NC. He touched the lives of many, including his extended family members, whom he helped to raise, James Otis Smith of Carson, VA, Elder Bobby Ray Smith of Sanford, NC, Andrew Smith of Goldsboro, NC and Judy Carol Smith Lewis (deceased). A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends remain. Professional, sympathetic, dignified, compassionate care and service entrusted to J.B.
