Coach Lane was the first coach that I had for organized school team. He was the 9th grade girl's basketball coach. He taught us how to be tough through lessons and physical activity. As a child you may not understand but as an adult, I know he prepared me for whatever was to come and to stand up and face it. Continue to rest coach, and I appreciate every lesson taught and modeled!

Rest easy from your labor Coach.

I thank God for the fellowship we shared at New Greenleaf Church of Christ. Charles loved to talk but always had good advice to pass on to anyone who needed it. We will miss you. We will continue to keep your family lifted up in prayer.

I shared this in the fondest of memories of my dear friend Charles. I had the privilege of working with Charles during the 2005 North Carolina softball state championship game along with Ed Faison. Charles was the first base umpire, Ed was the third base umpire, and I was the plate umpire. This game was a record-setting game in many aspects. It was the longest game in state history, which lasted four hours. West Cabarrus and West Forsyth, High Schools participated in that game. Each of the pitchers had 75 strikeouts. The game ended in a one nothing victory. It was certainly a privilege for us to have worked that game and represent the Eastern Carolina Softball Association. Charles was instrumental In training me in softball as well as volleyball. "His guidance helped me to become a better Official. He's a great mentor and a very good friend, and as I reflect on our relationship throughout the years, that experience in that game will always stand out In my memory of him. I will always miss the first base umpire. Rest in peace, my friend.
Say not in grief that he is no more; but live in thankfulness that he was. — Hebrew Proverb
I carry his memory not with a heavy heart, but with a profound and immense sense of thankfulness for the beautiful gift of his presence in my life.
Rest peacefully Coach Lane.
