Clarence Lewis Jr, fondly called "Booty" by family and friends transitioned this life peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday evening, May 3, 2024 at Goldsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Goldsboro, NC.
He was born on June 4, 1950, to the late Clarence Lewis, Sr. and Bessie Everett Lewis of Leland, NC in the Phoenix community. Clarence was the second son and third oldest child. His father transitioned at an early age which caused him to protect, love and cherish his mother even the more. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: George Lynwood Lewis (Pooley), James Lewis (Noit) and Ethel Lee Lewis (Pump-Pump).
Clarence attended Lincoln High School in Brunswick County. He later made a life for himself in Goldsboro, NC, and continued his education by obtaining certificates in auto mechanics, horticultural, and welding. Clarence was gainfully employed by Wilber's Barbecue Restaurant in Goldsboro, NC. for over 25 years. Through his hard work, he eventually purchased a comfortable home where he delighted in inviting family and friends to his annual birthday celebrations.
Clarence was a loving and caring person, often referred to as a gentle giant, one who would strike up a conversation with just about anyone he met. Family meant the world to him. He would often travel from Goldsboro to bring home-grown vegetables to family and friends. He adored his "Aunt Gerl" who was very special to him. He was a giving person, whenever the AME Zion Church conferences were held in Goldsboro, he always opened his home, inviting one and all to more food than they could possibly eat.
His precious memories will remain in the hearts of his two loving sisters and one brother, Mary Mosley, Mabel Lewis, and Reginald Lewis all of Leland, NC; one uncle Robert Everett, of Navassa, NC; one aunt Geraldine Everett Fields of Delco, NC; a loving and devoted cousin and caretaker, Janice Fields Johnson and her husband Jerry of Goldsboro, NC; special friends Ivan and Evelyn Harvey; his auto mechanic buddy Leo Kennon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services of caring, compassionate and distinguished class entrusted to J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations of Goldsboro.
