Creather (Cre) Bass affectionately known as Peach Pie was born on July 24, 1944 in Grey’s Creek, N. C. to Roy and Odessa Jones. She was one of 12 children born to this union. She attended Wayne County and Robeson County Public Schools, graduating from Southside High in Rowland, NC where she excelled in basketball and dance. Her love for dance carried over into her adulthood. She attended Durham Business College.
At an early age she accepted Christ and was the nucleus of the “Jones Five”, a young family Gospel sensation, featuring her on piano and vocals along with four siblings (Carl, Carolyn, Sylvester and Bobby).
On August 25, 1967, after a fairytale romance, she married her knight in shining armour, Bobby L. Bass. She cared for her family and friends with a free heart and loving spirit. When her husband and two brothers served overseas during the Vietnam wartime, she became a prayer warrior. God answered her prayers and all of them returned home safely. While she did not have children, she dearly loved and spoiled her nieces and nephews. And “she encouraged them to dance”.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Bobby Bass of the home; sister- Carolyn Mack of Bronx, New York; Brothers – Rev. Roy Jones and Sylvester Jones, both of Hampton, Virginia; Rev. Carl Jones (Betty) of Hamlet, North Carolina; and Bobby Jones of Goldsboro, North Carolina; 8 brother-in-laws; 4 sister-in-laws; 46 nieces and nephews; over 100 grand nieces/nephews, several great-grand nieces/nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Services of compassionate and distinguished class entrusted to J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations of Goldsboro.
