Praying for the Coley Family at this challenging time. Words cannot express how much I appreciate the life of Elroy Coley!

Lieutenant Coley was my leader, mentor, and friend. He was the best leader I worked with at the Goldsboro Fire Department. He never was excited on fires or other emergency calls. He did his duty! Lt. Coley talked frequently about his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved his mother and spoke of how she influenced his life.
He encouraged me to get my class B driver's license. He encouraged me to go to Wilson Community College and get my associate's degree in Fire Science. He practiced though love!
Lt. Coley taught me to focus on things I could change in life. He helped me to focus on helping other people. He stood up when he thought something was wrong. He took pride in his work and wanted the fire station and equipment to be clean and ready to operate at a moment's notice. He kept an immaculate yard and house.
Most of all he taught me what was important in life. He told me about his belief and reverence for Jesus Christ. He guided me to marry my wife and we have been married for 33 years. Lieutenant Coley's influence changed my life for the better. His influence changed the lives of many, many firefighters who worked with him. Lieutenant Coley loved God and people.
RIP my dear brother. We will miss your presence. To be absent from. the body is to be present with God. No more sickness and pain-there is joy forever more. We see you in heaven. Enjoy your new home.

Lt was a great man to the citizens he served with the fire department and I had the honor of knowing him and working with him on the EMS side.

A man of strength, courage and compassion. There was never a time, when he was around at First African Baptist Church, that he wasn't a help to me, when I needed him most. He will be missed and remembered with the fondest of memories.
