Evelyn Doris Newkirk Chalmers, 68, of Clayton, NC, peacefully passed away on February 21, 2025, in Raleigh, NC. Born on March 26, 1956, in Goldsboro, NC, she was the beloved daughter of LeRoy and Rebecca (Anderson) Newkirk. Evelyn's radiant smile and infectious personality were her trademarks whenever she entered a room, she left a lasting impression. Her kindness was boundless, often sharing what little she had, including her cherished Pepsi, with those around her.
Evelyn dedicated much of her life to serving her community. She worked at O'Berry Center and later with the Wayne County Public School System, where she touched the lives of many. Outside of work, Evelyn found joy in life's simple pleasures watching TV, dining out, chatting on the phone, and, most of all, cherishing time with her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. Her six grandbabies, Julian, Justin, Jayce, Janna, Jayde, and Jianna, were her pride and joy.
Evelyn is survived by her loving daughter, Jaleesa Jackson Jones (Marquez Jones). She also leaves behind her two sisters, Jessy Newkirk Wade and Cynthia Kenion Newkirk; her two brothers, Michael Dino Newkirk (Berdinia) and LeRoy Newkirk II; and a host of nieces and nephews: LaShawnda Newkirk, Deloris Newkirk Maple, Billy Ray Wellington Jr., LeRoy Newkirk III, Gary Manigault Jr. (Korketa), Akheem Newkirk, and Charles Brown. Additionally, she adored her great-nephews and nieces: Kelly Fuller Jr., Kalik Manigault, Tarik Rouse, Breionna McCuller, and Mya Rouse.
Evelyn was reunited in heaven with her husband, Anthony Chalmers, her parents, Rebecca and LeRoy Newkirk, her sister Pamela Newkirk Wellington, her brother-in-law Michael Wade, her sister-in-law Bertha Baldwin Newkirk, her niece Kerita Faison, and other loved ones who have gone before her.
While we mourn the loss of Evelyn, we also celebrate the life she lived a life filled with love, laughter, and generosity. On behalf of the family, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for all the love and support extended to us during this time of sorrow. Evelyn will forever be in our hearts.
