Goldsboro - Mother Gertrude Lewis Daye, 84, passed on Monday, April 20, 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral arrangements will be private. Also, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family ask that you keep them in prayer, but are not accepting any visitors. There will be a public viewing held on Sunday, April 26, 2020 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations, 1701 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC, with no more than 25 people in the chapel at the time.
She was born on August 23, 1935 in Wayne County, NC to Willie and Ruby Smith Lewis. She is survived by her son, Albert "Darray" Daye Jr. (Verna); two daughters: Dorothy Washington of Goldsboro NC and Denise (Willie) Reed of Dudley NC; two sisters-in-law: Helena Lewis of Goldsboro, NC and Johnnie Lewis of Lancaster, SC; nine grandchildren: La’Costa (Leon) Parker of Raleigh, NC, Sharon (Irvin) Atkinson of Goldsboro, NC, Ann (Marcus) Uzzell of Pikeville, NC, Sophia Washington of Goldsboro, NC, Shawn Washington of Goldsboro, NC, Albert D. Daye Jr. of New Mexico, Michael Daye of Goldsboro, NC, Curtis Daye of Pikeville, NC and Timeka Banks of Pikeville, NC; eighteen great-grandchildren including Ariel Parker, Leila Parker, Laila Parker and Sophia Britt Daye. A host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including, Apostle Debbie Coley, LaTanya Fennell and Sylvia Lewis. Very Special friends: Lisa Cox and Rita Houston.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Albert Lee Daye. She was also predeceased by her parents, as well as eight siblings: Willie Jay, Louvenia, James , Richard, John, Altha, Ben and Joe.
