Goldsboro - Mr. Leslie "Ike" Atkinson ("Stimp"), 88,went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2014 at Parham Doctors’ Hospital in Henrico, Virginia. The celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Bear Creek Headquarters, 1800 S. Slocumb Street, Goldsboro, NC. He will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery, Goldsboro, NC. There will be a viewing held on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 12:00pm until 7:00pm at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations, 1701 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC. He was born November 19, 1925 in Johnston County, North Carolina, the son of the late Preston and Rosetta Jones Atkinson. He was the youngest of 6 siblings. At a young age, he married the beautiful Atha Carlene Atkinson, who preceded him in death. He retired from the United States Army as a Master Sergeant in 1962 and was a soldier in the infamous 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He fought in the Korean War and World War II. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Anna Atkinson of New Haven Connecticut; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Michael Arrington of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Herbert Edwards of Silver Springs, Maryland; daughter and son-in-law, Nellie and Ben Uzzell of Richmond, Virginia; daughter, Jodi Proctor of Rockville, Maryland; son, Keith Atkinson of Fredericksburg, Virginia; son, John Atkinson of Fredericksburg, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Wende and Robert Yelverton of Goldsboro, North Carolina; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
