Goldsboro - Mr. Lionel Artis Sr. , 88, answered the Master's call on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Foothill Regional Medical Center, Tustin, California. The celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 12:00pm at White Oak Grove FWB Church, 2261 Big Daddys Road, Pikeville, NC. There will be a chapel viewing held on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations, 1701 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC. He will be laid to rest at the New Spruill Cemetery, Bartlett Road, Pikeville, NC.
He was born on December 23, 1935 in Pikeville, NC to George Washington Artis and Rosa Mae Spruill Artis. He is survived by his loving son, Alvin Keith Artis of Brea, CA; grandsons, Terrence Lionell (Terri) Artis of Alpharetta, GA and Daniel Keith Artis of Culver City, CA; great-grandchild, James Baker Mahaffey-Artis of Alpharetta, GA; brothers, Connie Ray Artis of Princeton, NC, Kenneth Earl Artis and Ronnie Artis of Goldsboro, NC; sisters, Esther Mae Williams of Goldsboro NC, Minnie (Herbert) Smalls of Washington DC, Rosa (Kenneth) Lee; daughter-in-love, Brenda Daniels of Goldsboro, NC; sister-in-law, Grace Calhoun of White Plains, NY; special nieces, Janice (Ken) Hathaway of Goldsboro, NC and Patricia Calhoun-Young of White Plains, NY; godson, Antron Williams of Zebulon, NC; close friends, Charles (Doris) Artis of Goldsboro, NC, Bishop Charles J. (Linda Faye) Williams of Goldsboro, NC, Alma Whitfield of Goldsboro, NC, and Nathaniel Battle of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
