Goldsboro - Ms. Mary Ruth Ray Gardner, 84, passed on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 in Greensboro surrounded by family. The celebration of her life will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Mark Church of Christ Faro, 893 Lanetown Road, Stantonsburg, NC. She will be laid to rest at the Fremont Cemetery, 174 Winding Branch Ave., Fremont, NC. There will be a viewing held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1701 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC.
Ruth was born on June 24, 1933 in Goldsboro, NC to the late Annie Bell Ray and Elroy Artis. She leaves to cherish her loving memories five daughters: Wanda Gardner Taylor (Calvin) of Woodford, VA, Charlene Gardner of Roanoke, VA, Pamela Gardner of Woodford, VA, Lisa Gardner DeBerry (Reginald) of Greensboro, NC and Jeannie Michelle Gardner (Jeffrey) of Fulshear, TX; one son, Edgar Lee “Bird” Gardner Jr. (Stephanie) of Cibolo, TX; three grandchildren: Torance and Jada Gardner and Aaron Lee Gardner Taylor; one great grandchild, Torri Lindsey Griffin; three sisters: Helen Williams (Freddie) and Kay Frances Ray both of Goldsboro, NC and Dorothy Smith (Kelly) of Snow Hill, NC; one brother, Leon Raye of Temple Hills, MD; six sister in-laws: Bernell Herring of Greensboro, NC, Nora Jackson of Newark, NJ, Geraldine Ransom (Joe) of Alabaster, AL, Janie Marie Gardner and Louise Wilson both of Goldsboro, NC and Ruth Ray of Philadelphia, PA; one brother in-law, Green Thomas Gardner of Newburgh, NY, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
