Fremont - Mr. Melvin Artis, 78 of 1399 Norwayne School Road, passed on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, NC. The celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 12:00 noon at First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 S. Goldsboro Street, Fremont, NC. He will be laid to rest at the Hooks Grove Church Cemetery, 290 Hooks Grove Church Road, Pikeville, NC. There will be a viewing held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 11:00am until 12:00 noon at First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 S. Goldsboro Street, Fremont, NC.
He was born on August 1, 1938 in Johnston County, NC to Edward and Gertrude Coley Artis. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Harvey and four children: Melvin Artis Jr., Edward Artis, Sherby Artis and Amanda Artis.
