Milton graduated from Dillard High School in 1967, where he met his high school sweetheart, Donzella Leggett. After graduation, he worked briefly with his father, Frank at Dewey Brothers Foundry and eventually moved to Baltimore with his broter, ‘Bro’, where he worked at Bethlehem Steel. Milton was then drafted into the Army, where he served his country for three and half years in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and he was an Expert M16 marksman.
After returning home, he made his way to Kentucky to work with Simprich and McNutt Construction Company. However, Milton always wanted to move back to North Carolina to be close to family. In 1996, he relocated with his family to Durham, North Carolina, where he worked with Mixon Construction for well over 10 years. Milton loved his work and being apart of a team. He was a great leader and was constantly recognized for this dedicated work ethic.
Milton will be remembered as a loving, protective, supportive, loyal, and funny husband, dad, and brother. He was a man that loved a good thunderstorm, cutting down his own Christmas tree, and having movie nights and popcorn with the family. He was the type of dad that would wake the kids up in the middle of the night to see a lightning storm or just point out the stars in the sky. A loyal Tarheels fan, and an advocate for civil rights and protesting. He was devoted to his wife “Donnie” of over 50 years, they had a teenage love, a black love, a real love. He loved being a Husband, Dad and Grandad. This was his true joy in life.
