He was born on May 27, 1958 in Delhi, NY to Robert J. Kivel Sr. and Dorothy Alice Gattie Kivel. He is survived by his parents; his siblings: Kathleen Tripp of Zebulon, NC, Mary Brewington, Lillington, NC, Colleen Hastings of Claremont, NC, Sean Kivel of Angier, NC and many nieces and nephews.
