Elder Sherman Earl Best's Obituary
Goldsboro- Elder Sherman Earl Best, 87, completed his earthly assignment and transitioned from labor to reward, Monday, December 18, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family, after having lived a very rewarding life as a son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.
Sherman was born August 14,1936 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Mr. John William Best and Mrs. Clara Fields Best. He attended Wayne County Schools and was a1956 graduate of Dillard High School. He joined Greenleaf Christian Church Disciples of Christ at young age.
Sherman met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Burden Best and to this union three children were born. Sherman was a licensed contractor and built hundreds of homes. He had a love and passion for carpentry and construction. Because of the passion, love and commitment to his work, he provided a good lifestyle for his family. Sherman was also the first black elected commissioner for Wayne County. He broadcasted "The Way, the Truth and Life Ministry , until his health began to decline. Sherman was a faithful member at Greenleaf Christian Church Disciples of Christ, St Joseph and Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Sherman was the youngest of his siblings and was preceded in death by his parents all of his siblings: Marie Best, John Thomas Best, Auretha Best Harper , Elbert Best, Junious Best, Thaddeus Best, James Rudolph Best Frances Best and Andrew Best .
Sherman is survived by and leaves to cherish his precious legacy, his wife Mrs. Dorothy Burden Best, his sons John Sherman Best ( of the home), Danny Ray Best ( Valerie of Wilson, NC) , daughter , Cassandra Best (of Fayetteville, NC), grandchildren , Kayla Best, Dantrell Best, Christopher Little, D'onna Best, Javon Wooten and Joiel SIlver, 11 great grand children, nieces, nephews ,in-laws and host of other relatives and friends
