Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Goldsboro Mr. Urias Berry, 80 of 510 Weaver Drive, passed on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. His homegoing celebrations service will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. James AME Zion Church, 206 S. George Street, Goldsboro, NC with Reverend Dr. Dwight B. Cannon officiating. He will be entombed at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 US 117 Hwy, Dudley, NC. There will be a visitation held on Monday, October 7, 2013 from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm with the family present from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the J.B. Rhodes Jr. Memorial Chapel at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations. He was born on October 9, 1932 in Onslow County to the union of Walter and Lillie Cox Berry. Urias was united in marriage to Geneva Elizabeth Williams of St. Petersburg, FL on December 26, 1959. Born to this union are Demetria (James) Berry McCreary and Keith Berry both of Goldsboro, NC. Their union also cherished his son, Richard Maxwell of Brooklyn, NY, who preceded him to Glory. Urias attended Onslow County Schools and relocated to New York. While residing there he became a Licensed Insurance and Real Estate Broker. Also, while in New York, he owned and operated B&G (Berry & Gene) Real Estate Company, and was a Housing Inspector for the City of New York. Urias then returned with his family to his Southern Roots and became a Correctional Officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections (now known as the North Carolina Department of Public Safety) until his retirement. The Christian service of Urias Berry includes active membership at St. James AME Zion Church Goldsboro, NC. He enthusiastically served as a member of the Trustee Board, and faithfully served as a member of the Feed My Sheep Ministry. Rejoicing with him in Glory are brothers: David Brown and Melvin Johnson; sisters: Evelyn Hopkins, Ester Smith, and Estella Jones. The living legacy of Urias Berry also includes sisters: Naomi Kinsey of Richlands, NC and Betty Humphrey of Kinston, NC; brother-in-law: Carver Williams of St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law: Jackie Charlote of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren: Darnell, Genelle, Takoree, James III, Cameron, Amber, Ashley, Angela, and Faith; seven great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. Professional, sympathetic, dignified and compassionate care and service entrusted to J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations.
