Eureka - Mr. Van Dewey Taylor, 78 of 215 S. Baker Street, passed on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Willow Creek Nursing & Rehab Center, Goldsboro, NC. The celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 12:00pm at St. James Church of Christ DOC, 514 Memorial Church Road, Fremont, NC. He will be laid to rest at the Turner Swamp Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Turner Swamp Road, Eureka, NC. There will be a visitation held on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm with the family arriving to greet friends from 6:00pm until 7:00pm at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations, 1701 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC.
He was born on August 30, 1937 in Wayne County, NC to Van Dewey Taylor Sr. and Annie Edmundson Taylor. He is survived by three daughters: Debra Artis (Charles) of Eureka, NC, Sandra Coley (Greg) of Wilson, NC and Vanna Renee Thompson (Shaun) of Kinston, NC; four sons: Robert Ruffin (Linda) of Fayetteville, NC, Jackie Coley, Alvin Artis (Stephanie) both of Wilson, NC and Van Dontay Taylor of Eureka, NC; five stepsons: Willie Artis (Diane) of Wilson, NC, Danny Langston (Barbara) of Austin, TX, Terry Lamont Ruffin (Cathy) of Wilson, NC, Bobby Ray Ruffin of Washington, DC and Tracey Edwards of Goldsboro, NC; one sister, Eunice Smith of Eureka, NC; one brother, Emerson Newsome (Rematha) of Eureka, NC.
