Coach Elvin Junior James' Obituary
Goldsboro - Coach Elvin J. James, 66, coached his final earthly game on Monday, September 5, 2022 at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC & will now be coaching that Heavenly football team. The celebration of his life will be held at the Bear Creek Missionary Baptist Association, 1800 S. Slocumb Street, Goldsboro, NC on Monday,September 12, 2022 at 11:00am. A wake will be held at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations, 1701 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. He will be laid to rest at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro, NC at 2:00pm on Monday, September 12, 2022.
He was born on November 4, 1955 in Carteret County, NC to Elvin Jones and Ollie Mae James. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary Kay Jones James of the home and his children; and other loving relatives and many friends.
James was a native of Beaufort, NC, and a graduate of East Carteret High School where is in the East Carteret High School Hall of Fame. He is also in the sports Hall of Fame at Elizabeth City State University. Coach James was a longtime community servant and education advocate, mentoring student-athletes at Goldsboro High School, Elizabeth City State University, Livingstone College, and other schools throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland.
